FEMRITE yatandikibwawo mu 1995 nga Mary Karoro Okurut, mu kiseera kino (okuva mu 2011) mmemba wa Palamenti ya Uganda ey’omunaana, kyokka mu kiseera ekyo yali musomesa mu yunivasite y’e Makerere. Okurut yeegatibwako Lillian Tindyebwa, Ayeta Anne Wangusa, Susan Kiguli, Martha Ngabirano, Margaret Ntakalimaze, Rosemary Kyarimpa, Hilda Twongyeirwe, Philomena Rwabukuku ne Judith Kakonge .

FEMRITE yasooka kutongozebwa ng'ekibiina eky'obwa nnakyeewa nga 3 Ogw'okutaano 1996. Goretti Kyomuhendo,oluvannyuma eyatandika African Writers Trust, yeyasooka okukola ng'omukwanaganya wa FEMRITE. Ba mmemba abala abagundiivu kuliko Beverley Nambozo, Glaydah Namukasa, Beatrice Lamwaka, Doreen Baingana, Violet Barungi, Mildred Barya (era amanyiddwa nga Mildred Kiconco), ne Jackee Budesta Batanda.
